Cameras, recording, and privacy

How Maidene installs cameras, where the video is kept, who can see it, and what you are responsible for.

Recording stays in your home

Cameras record to a network video recorder installed in your home, on drives sized for your cameras. Recording does not depend on your internet connection, and no camera stream is published to the internet. Your Maidene account reaches the recorder over a private, encrypted connection to show its health and to prepare clips you request.

Storage is calculated, not guessed

Storage depends on the number of cameras, resolution and bitrate, whether cameras record continuously or only on events, and how long you keep footage. Typical 4-megabit cameras need roughly:

  • 4 cameras, events only, 30 days: about 933 GB
  • 4 cameras, continuous, 14 days: about 2.9 TB
  • 8 cameras, continuous, 30 days: about 12.4 TB

We confirm the real figure after measuring your cameras, and your account shows a retention period as guaranteed only once the installed storage has been verified to hold it. A mirrored drive protects against a drive failing; it is not a backup, and it does not protect against theft of the recorder.

Who can see footage

You, and the people you authorize in your account, for the cameras and period you choose. Maidene staff have no routine access. If you ask us to retrieve footage, an administrator grants a technician access for up to 72 hours, and that grant and every view appear in your account’s access log. Clip links expire after five minutes, and every exported clip carries a SHA-256 fingerprint.

Your responsibilities

  • I have a legitimate purpose for recording, such as the security of my home, and the cameras cover only areas I am entitled to record.
  • I will tell household members, household staff (including Maidene staff working in my home), and regular visitors where cameras record, and I will not place cameras in bathrooms, bedrooms used by others, or other places where people expect privacy.
  • Audio recording stays off unless I ask for it separately and Maidene confirms it has been reviewed. Recording conversations can be unlawful without consent.
  • Footage often shows other people. I will share it only with people I authorize here, with law enforcement, or as the law requires, and not publish it.
  • I am responsible for using the cameras lawfully under Texas and federal law. Maidene installs and maintains the equipment; installing it does not make any particular use lawful.

This page is general information, not legal advice. Recording law depends on where cameras point, who is recorded, and whether audio is captured. Ask a lawyer if you are unsure.
